I’ve considered an autobiography for years, but I decided to create its website only recently.
I have scads of notes. What I do not have are most of “my” photos – those of my growing years. They reside in the basement of my family home in Calgary and in the scrapbooks I made for my parents 40 years ago.
I have carefully scanned everything the family owns relating to its genealogy – old, old photos of ancestors and their European homes. But not of my own parents… and not of me.
I get home for a visit each spring and when I’m there I make a practice of rummaging through the photo/memento box and reviewing the scrapbooks. In the last couple of years I have even taken to removing a photo or two or three, bringing them home, scanning them, and returning them to their places on the next trip. Sadly, my last trip was early 2019 – COVID forced me to cancel 2020.
At this point some entries miss crucial elements which I’ll insert when I can. I may be able to enlist scanning help from sibs but most of the work will likely have to wait until I can travel safely again. Perhaps this summer?
